Maria Evora Jabon Mineral

I was really taken by this item. I found something wonderfully mysterious and regal about Maria Evora's mineral bar of soap. The deep black colour reflects the beauty and sensuality Maria intended for her mineral products. However, as well-designed as the packaging is and as rich as the history of her line may be, it's Maria's haunting image on the bar that truly takes an item as overlooked as a plain bar of soap and transforms it something fit to be framed and hung up on a wall. Now available at Le Marché St. George.

Price | $9.25 (This item is available on our online shop)

Belmondo Organic Skin Care

We are now stocking products by Belmondo, a Vancouver organic skin care company. Daniela Belmondo founded the company last year with the intention of creating a line utilizing olive oil that closely resembles natural oils found in our skin. Apart from doing a terrific job that the products were made for, one really has to appreciate the packaging and branding of her line. The color pallet of the product and simple typography based aesthetic of the brand lends touch of style to its surrounding environment. Currently, we have The Garden (hand & body lotion), The Rain (face cleanser), After The Rain (face toner), The Cloud (face cream), The Dunes (face exfoliant), and The Petal (under eye cream) in stock. Don't forget that there is a sample of each product available in the shop! Please help yourself to a try the next time you find yourself at our Le Marché. Coincidently, Belmondo was the featured in the same-issue of Monocle (May 2011) that Le Marché St. George was highlighted in (more on our feature here)

A Family of Pirates

One of the most precious things about Le Marché St. George is the people that live in the neighbourhood. It's not everyday you get to see pirates, but this morning we were pleasantly surprised to be visited by a family of them. The Odegard's that live three houses away from us dressed up and lit up our shop with creativity and cuteness. I feel lucky to have been in the right place at the right time to capture this moment. They will be making a brief appearance again tomorrow to show Klee, who Olegard's missed today, their outfits. Maybe, you'll get to see them too, and there's no need for caution they're friendly pirates - the best kind.

Handmade Tomato, Garlic & Italian Herb Focaccia

Le Marché St. George is truly fortunate to have artisanal Italian baked goods prepared daily and exclusively for us. Today, we are highlighting a Sicilian inspired focaccia topped with cheese, slices of vine-ripened tomato that have been marinated with minced garlic, italian herbs and a copious amount of extra virgin cold pressed olive oil. It's a simple and decadent Italian recipe, and although I'll be posting about the many other Italian baked goods we carry this is by far my favourite.

Applebarn Currants

"Someone told me a fascinating fact about currants" said Janaki as I enquired about the fresh currants currently in stock at Le Marché St. George. She explained to me the reason people don't know exactly what to do with currants and why it's hard to come across them fresh is due to their cultivation being banned by the agricultural department of Canada in 1920s, as they were prone to a disease causing powdery mildew and white pine blister rust to form on their plants and leafs. In fact, hasn't been until the last 10 years when people starting growing them again. The black currants that work perfectly for making Cassis, the red can be used in your summer jam and preserves, the white are divine when frozen and thrown into cocktails. Our currants come from are trusted friends at The Applenbarn Farm and taste splendid.
