Backyard Honey

This is probably one of our most exciting and personal offerings of the season. As you may have noticed, Le Marché St. George houses a few hives (behind our garage). Mellissa Cartwright of Backyard Buzz has dropped off the first batch of honey from our very own hives. Each batch has a color and flavour unique to its area of cultivation; ours, for example, has a beautiful floral finish. Unfortunately, there is a limited quantity and they are going extremely fast, so move with haste if you don't want to miss out ($15.00 a pint).

Menu Inspiration: Sunflower Sprout Salad

Le Marché St. George is currently carrying wonderfully diverse and satisfying sunflower sprouts. For this menu inspiration we decided on utilizing them uncooked in a simple salad that's full of flavour. The salad pictured above consists of red romaine leaves, sunflower sprouts, honeycrisp apples, raisins, goat cheese and is dressed in a mixture of olive oil, salt & vinegar. I remember Janaki telling me that the sprouts were delivered on bike weekly, which in my opinion lends a touch of magic to it all. Again, I can't wait to document the action for you sometime.
