Thanksgiving Dinner

Every holiday pales in comparison to Thanksgiving for Janaki Larsen, which is why Le Marché St. George is stocking a plethora of groceries and products to make your Thanksgiving dinner a memorable one. The Larsen family is going to host this years thanksgiving dinner this coming Sunday. I can't wait to document the festivities; I can already envision an evening of good people, better food, and wine flowing abundantly.

Bread x Backpack

While working on a shoot for the shop today, Patricia spotted a customer with some bread we carry strapped to her backpack. I politely asked the couple, Frank Hemingway and Kristen Geekie of The Rachmaninoff Theory, if I could snap a shot of them. It's these endearing moments that I hope I can share more of you with. They seem to happen often at the shop. It saddens to think of all the ones I miss. What a lovely way to transport bread, no?

Chanterelles

Every weekend for the last 10 years Simon and his wife have been picking mushrooms locally. This week they dropped off the most decadent golden chanterelles ($21.50 per pound). Next week they are bringing by white chanterelles, and that will be followed by porcini mushrooms. These mushrooms are a beautiful ingredient you will regret missing out on.

Winter Cold Remedy

Le Marché St. George is now making the perfect remedy for your fall/winter cold. The drink is a cold annihilating combination of hot water, fresh ginger, lemon, honey, hint of cayenne pepper ($2.50). Upon your request we will also add some wild oil of oregano to the tea ($3.00). Hedd Wyn Essentials' wild oil of oregano can also be purchased in our shop ($19.95).

Tea Cups

One of the most unique things about Le Marché St. George, in my opinion, is how you are served your coffee. One of the vehicles used to serve espresso drinks is tea cups. Most the time you never get the same one, and on occasion sadly they break and you ever get to see them again. This on-going series is a celebration of the diverse cups we have at our shop. Each has it's own little relationship with our customers whether it's obvious to them or not. If you have a favourite cup please let us know below in the comments. And if it was not featured here in our first instalment, don't worry another is on its way.

Mexican Shawls

Our shop is now stocking these amazing hand-loomed shawls imported from Oaxaca mexico ($65.00). The shawls are perfect for wrapping yourself and having a hot beverage in this undecided fall, yet brisk, weather Vancouver is offering. This look is very close to the one being created by the beautiful women of our neighbourhood with our Pestemal Turkish Towels, which we mentioned in an earlier post here.

Spaghetti Al Nero Diseppia

Le Marché St. George is stocking a beautiful squid ink spagetti, which is perfect for a quick fall dinner because all it takes is a handful of items. You'll need a good hard cheese, olive oil, garlic, onion, pepper, and of course a package of spaghetti al nero diseppia. We will be posting a menu inspiration based on this simple recipe soon.

Fall Is Coming

We are currently stocking these wonderful wool throws from Mexico ($95.00). But more importantly we are excited for the autumn and introducing our new aesthetic/color palette. I've had the pleasure of working with Patricia Larsen (Janaki & Klee's mother) and together we've been photographing and styling our little hearts out. She's such an inspiration. Above we've presented a couple ways for you to incorporate the wool throws in your home for that dishevelled look.

With the cold season coming in, I can't imagine anything more decadent than a side of our roasted heirloom carrots to compliment your next meal.
