Menu Inspiration: Sunflower Sprout Salad

Le Marché St. George is currently carrying wonderfully diverse and satisfying sunflower sprouts. For this menu inspiration we decided on utilizing them uncooked in a simple salad that's full of flavour. The salad pictured above consists of red romaine leaves, sunflower sprouts, honeycrisp apples, raisins, goat cheese and is dressed in a mixture of olive oil, salt & vinegar. I remember Janaki telling me that the sprouts were delivered on bike weekly, which in my opinion lends a touch of magic to it all. Again, I can't wait to document the action for you sometime. Old Faithful's Summer Market Pt. II

Needless to say, Walter and Savannah of Old Faithful Shop know how to throw a successful event. Last sunday Klee and I went down to visit their sophomore summer market to represent Le Marché St. George. It was a lovely event that was really well put together. On a funny note, Lola was supposed to make an appearance, but she was left at home due to excessive crying, which is sad because if anyone should be the ambassador for Le Marché St. George it's Lola. She's just too adorable. Upon leaving Savannah handed Klee a gift bag, which she kindly shared with me. It was a really great Sunday afternoon; I'm glad to have spent part of it with such quality and talented company - thanks Klee.

Isabelle Dunlop Blankets

A beautiful product always seems to be more lovely when made it's locally. The reason for this escapes me, but I'm sure it has something to do with pride. These wonderful blankets by Isabelle Dunlop, a local Vancouver fashion designer, for example, are exactly what I'm referring to. Isabelle has wonderful passion for wool that rivals Janaki's for linen (see this), and it shows in her products. The latest collection of blankets available at Le Marché St. George are made from Shetland wool. Janaki's beautiful baby girl, Lola, owns the grey one pictured on the bottom right. In a perfect world, I would have been able to capture her wrapped up in her warm grey blanket. But even though it didn't happen today, I'm sure an an opportunity in the not so distant future will present itself as little ones always seem to need an afternoon nap.

Linens

Here at Le Marché St. George it becomes quite clear quite quickly that Janaki has a not so subtle infatuation with her linens. Now this isn't any sort of criticism. I personally think that our shop is better for it; the linens you see through out and for sale at the shop come from a small family-run linen mill originating in Eastern Europe. After attending design school in London, the daughter of our linen manufacturer decided on promoting her country's rich but sadly forgotten art of linen making. We currently stocking her family's table cloths ($119.00-$146.00), runners ($32.50), towels ($ 49.95), shower glove ($14.95), napkins (Set of four $45.00) & dish towels ($29.95).

Menu Inspiration: Insalata Caprese

Sometimes luxury won't do. Sometimes your heart longs for simplicity. A little fresh basil, heirloom tomatoes ($3. 90 lb), bocconcini, a little olive oil, salt and pepper. This ingredient combination originated in the Campania region in Italy and makes for the perfect bite every time. We recommend you place it on on top of some artisanal homemade bread, so you can reach the gastronomical bliss we did this afternoon. If you're looking for a quick fix with no time to search for ingredients or prep your own, we are now offering a new signature sandwich at our shop inspired by the insalata caprese; it consists of homemade pesto, organic heirloom tomatoes and bocconcini on our in house artisanal bread - toasted to order ($8.75).

Pennellificio Omega

At Le Marché St. George we are happy to introduce Pennellificio Omega shaving goods. These well-crafted shaving brushes are manufactured in Italy and are the best example quality at an affordable price. The synthetic boar bristle ($6.95) rivals any brands introductory authentic badger brush line (bottom), meanwhile the gift pack of that comes with authentic boar hair shaving brush with and their eucalyptus shaving soap ($24.95) is the perfect gateway brush for future shaving aficionados. Using canned shaving cream is incredibly convient and wonderful in it's own right, but the experience of lathering your supple-bristled brush with freshly foamed soap just feels traditional, and that's what we're all about.
